AAN TAFEL

Painting weekend · Deest

Two days at the easel.
One evening at the table.

A weekend in my studio. You paint, we eat, and you go home with a painting you built from the ground up.

Painting

From first lay-in to almost finished.

Not an ordinary workshop

Most workshops give you two hours.
This one gives you a weekend.

Two hours is enough to start something. It is never enough to get into it.

Here you have two days. Time to look, to try, to be wrong, and to keep going until the painting is really yours.

One painting. Two days. Entirely your own.

And then: the table

The table you painted at
is set for dinner.

At the end of the first day we sit down together. The same table we worked at all day is laid for dinner.

The food has an Indonesian base. Warm, generous, and plenty of it.

A good glass of wine, an easy evening in my studio, and time to talk about what you are making.

Painting, eating, painting again.

The painting

From dark to light,
and only then to colour.

You build your painting step by step, the way I work myself. You start in the dark and work towards the light. Colour comes last, when everything underneath is right.

I walk around, look at your work with you, and help where you get stuck. You do not have to be able to do this already. You have to want to look.

How the weekend runs

Two days that carry each other.

Saturday

Morning · Setting up
We start quietly. You choose your subject and lay in your painting.

Afternoon · At the easel
You keep working. I walk around and look with you.

Evening · At the table
Dinner with an Indonesian base, and time to talk.

Sunday

Morning · Building on
You carry on with your painting, with everything from yesterday still in your hands.

Afternoon · A long lunch
We take our time.

Late · Closing
We finish the weekend together and look at what is standing there.

About me

Painting has been my passion and my life for more than thirty years.

I've worked full-time as an artist since 2012. My work hangs in the Royal Stables in The Hague and is part of private collections in the Netherlands and abroad.

I think it's important that you don't just learn what to do, but also understand why you do it. That is why the group stays small, and why this is a weekend and not an afternoon.

Two days in November

Paint. Eat.
Paint again.

A real studio, a painting you build yourself, and a table where it all comes together.
